Mahmoud is a Chevening Scholar and thought leader on the topics of political economy, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC), economic development, Art consultancy and Islamic Jurisprudence.
Mahmoud bin Selim Al Hashimi is a “Sharif” of the Banu Hashim clan of the Quraysh tribe. Mahmoud is a 40th direct male descendent of prophet Muhammad {PBUH} by the Prophet’s grandson Al Hussein bin Ali bin Abi Talib bin Abd Al Muttalib bin Hashim. Through paternal bloodlines Mahmoud shares common lineage and ancestry with the ruling families of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Morocco as well as the abolished monarchies of the Kingdom of Hejaz, Arab Kingdom of Syria, the Kingdom of Iraq and the Kingdom of Libya. Through maternal bloodlines, Mahmoud’s lineage is from the Abu Steit branch of the Banu Juhaynah tribe (a nomadic Arab tribe and leading member of and largest clan in the Banu Quda’a confederation of Arab tribes).
Mahmoud was called to the Bar in 2002. Early in his career, Mahmoud joined the judiciary, where he was a senior prosecutor and an investigations magistrate focusing on Human Rights, national security, financial crime, sentencing, transnational organised crime, and international judicial cooperation. During his time with the judiciary, Mahmoud was the deputy attorney general and a member of the technical bureau of the attorney general as well as the international judicial cooperation division.
Mahmoud relocated to the UAE in 2010 and has been a resident in Dubai ever since.
Before founding Selim & Bose, Mahmoud was the Regional Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa at Kobre & Kim. Prior to joining Kobre & Kim, Mahmoud was a partner and regional head of compliance and investigations at Matouk Bassiouny.
Earlier, Mahmoud was a Legal Director with the Risk Advisory Services team at Pinsent Masons.
